We are pleased to announce the 2020 ABEC Scholarship recipients:
Alberta Building Envelope Council South Award
Faraz Shapourzadeh
Master of Architecture (Environmental Design), Faculty of Graduate Studies
“I am sincerely honored to have been selected as the Alberta Building Envelope Council South Award recipient. Thank you for your generosity, which has helped me successfully complete the third semester of the Master of Architecture program at the University of Calgary.I am very thankful for receiving your thoughtful gift. After finishing my graduate studies, I plan to start my career right after, and I am very enthusiastic about architectural practice in Canada. Because of your scholarship, I could buy some technical books about digital design and fabrication and took part in many online courses, including parametric design, building science, robotic programming, BIM, etc., which allowed me to improve my skills in relative courses. I completed the fall semester with a GPA of 3.83 and received a commendation letter from our department because of achieving excellent academic standing. I plan to spend the rest of this scholarship on preparation for the LEED Green Associate exam during the current semester, which would be an excellent accreditation for my professional practice. Thank you again for your thoughtful and generous gift, making my achievements possible.”
Alberta Building Envelope Council South Award
Mona Asadi
Master of Architecture (Environmental Design), Faculty of Graduate Studies
“I am honored to be the recipient of the Alberta Building Envelope Council South Award. Your generous contribution has allowed me to pursue my Master’s degree at University of Calgary. I am currently in the last semester of my Graduate education. I plan on graduating in April, at which time I will pursue a career in the industry as an Intern Architect. I will use the knowledge, skills, and expertise I have gained during my time at University of Calgary to contribute to the community after graduation. As an international student, I am so grateful to be selected by your committee and even more passionate about my journey especially in the area of building details, envelope and construction. The Alberta Building Envelope Council has paid for purchasing lots of valuable books mostly regarding building details, allowing me to focus on my academic pursuits since I believe that is a very important subject in my education and career. Without your donation, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this knowledge to fulfil my professional ambition of becoming an Architect. Thank you for your support, kindness and investment in my future.”
