Fred Edwards, P. Eng. is a Principal and Group Leader with Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. (RJC). Fred has been consulting in RJC’s Building Science and Restoration practice since graduation from the University of Calgary in 2006 and has worked on a wide array of commercial, residential, and institutional projects in that time. Fred Joined ABEC in 2006 and has served on the Executive since 2013.
As the founding Principal of Wall Engineering Ltd. Kris brings over 20 years of expertise to the Building Science & Structural Restoration practice. He specializes in building envelope evaluation, design, testing, rehabilitation, and quality control for new and existing building envelope systems. Kris has extensive experience in institutional, commercial, academic, healthcare, residential and industrial projects focusing on sustainable design and durability. He is currently serving as Past President of the Alberta Building Envelope Council, is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and sits on the professional advisory committee for the Civil Engineering Technology program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
Anton Vlooswyk, P.Eng. is a principal with Building Envelope Engineering Inc. He has been recognized as a leader in the Building Envelope field, having completed a wide range of projects across Canada. He combines a thorough understanding of Building Envelope principles and materials science, with a practical knowledge of construction practices and sequencing. Anton has served on the ABEC Executive in various positions since 1996, and as a Director of the National Building Envelope Council (NBEC) since 2003.
Bob has been involved in the business of Architecture since 1986, after graduating from the University of Calgary, faculty of Environmental Design. He has been a registered architect since 1996 and has practiced in the field of building envelope design and restoration exclusively since 1997. His firm, Building Science + Architecture Ltd has been inexistence since 2003, providing developers, contractors, property managers condominium boards and home owners with assistance with respect to building envelope design and remediation.
Dennis Looten, Life Member CSC, FCSC, B.Sc. The founder and president of Asset Consulting & Inspections Ltd., a Calgary based consulting firm established in 1998 that specializes in roofing and moisture protection. He has been certified as an ARCA Accepted Inspector since 1977. Work experience includes sixteen years with the Alberta Roofing Contractors Association (ARCA) to provide technical services and administration. Dennis has been a member of Alberta Building Envelope Council (ABEC) since its inception in 1983 and on the executive of ABEC since 1996.
Mairead Walsh, P.L.(Eng.) LEED AP is a building envelope technologist with Keller Engineering. She has a wide range of building envelope experience including investigations, building envelope design and construction quality assurance on residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Mairead has served on the ABEC executive since 2012.
Greg founded Greg Martineau Projects in 1995, after many years of experience in the construction industry. Greg cribbed and framed homes all over Calgary and beyond. During that time he learned how windows, doors and siding could transform the comfort and aesthetics of any home.
When the time was right to open his own business, Greg was naturally drawn to the installation of doors, windows and siding. He had developed a passion for helping homeowners make the most of their property for a modest investment. It’s fair to say that there’s probably no one in the Calgary area who is responsible for the installation of as many windows as Greg!
Greg continues to visit worksites, and he oversees the entire GMP operation instilling the company’s core values.
Mike has been practicing in the field of building science for over 20 years. He has completed projects across the western provinces for a variety of commercial, institutional and residential clients. Mike has served on the Board of Directors of ABEC since 1999 in a variety of positions. Mike was chair of the organizing committee for the 2007 NBEC conference.
Sathya Ramachandran is the Manager of the Building Science Division, Calgary at exp Services Inc. With more than 16 years of experience in consulting and research in building science and architecture, Sathya has accumulated knowledge on a wide variety of building envelope systems in both new construction and restoration projects for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial type buildings. Sathya has provided consulting services focusing on the durability and energy efficiency goals for projects built across several cities in the western region of North America, including Canada and USA, in addition to his architectural experience in India. Sathya is a voting member of the ASTM E06 Committee on Performance of Buildings.
Marty is a Senior Project Engineer, Branch Manager and shareholder at JRS Engineering. He is responsible for technical oversight on projects as well as operations and business development for the Calgary office. Marty also provides training and mentoring to junior technical staff. Understanding clients’ needs, Marty endeavours to provide timely and accurate building science and restoration consulting services, so the client has the information and expertise needed for them to excel in their roles and positions. Marty has successfully delivered a variety of structural restoration and building envelope consulting projects of all sizes and uses, from early concept and design phases through to delivery.
A broad experience base has equipped Marty to tackle roofing, building envelope, and structural evaluations for all types of buildings. Marty started his professional career in the mid 1990’s as a journeyman carpenter and small business contracting company owner. He has worked on both residential and commercial construction projects, in both new construction and restoration projects. Seeing the long term opportunity in engineering, Marty completed a degree in Civil Engineering from Lakehead University in 2010. Since then, Marty has provided engineering services in evaluation, restoration, design development and structural analysis for new and existing buildings in the greater Calgary area and throughout Alberta.
Ed comes from 17 years experience in the homebuilding industry in Calgary after working for his family’s renovation company in the UK. He has owned and operated Fire Ant Contracting, servicing properties in Calgary and surrounding areas, since 2008 after identifying a gap in the market for a multi-faceted general contracting company. Ed has specialized in building envelope restoration for the past seven years and has been a member of ABEC since 2017. In addition, he sits on the board of a condominium property in southwest Calgary, is a member of the Calgary Construction Association, BILD and NKBA. He has been an active member of the organizing committee for the Kids Cancer Care Annual Fundraising Gala for the past five years. Ed’s enthusiasm for customer service, mentoring his team, and keeping abreast of new developments in the construction industry has contributed to his company’s success.
Jon Solland, P. Eng., RRC, RRO, joined WSP Group in 2018. Prior to WSP, Jon was employed at Alberta BTC Group, Skyline Group of Companies, and attended University of Toronto’s Civil Engineering program. He has experience in several engineering disciplines including municipal development and engineering, structural engineering, and building enclosure engineering.
His current position includes consulting services such as writing specifications, reports, detail design, and project management within the building enclosure field.
Jon is an active leader in the industry, taking steps to advance building enclosure knowledge. He is a member of the board of directors for the RCI Canadian Prairies Chapter, serves on the education committee, is an RCI award recipient, and was published in the international technical journal RCI Interface in July 2018.
