Topic: Lessons from Code‑Required Whole Building Air Leakage Testing
As Alberta moves towards adopting requirements for code‑required whole building air leakage testing (WBALT), there are lessons to be learned from our neighbors to the south in Washington State – one of the first North American jurisdictions to require such testing. Now in their third code cycle, the Washington State and Seattle energy codes require WBALT on a considerable number of large commercial, institutional, and residential buildings. This presentation gives guidance on WBALT and touches on design and construction issues.
Presenter: Marty Deemter, P.Eng., JRS Engineering Marty is a Senior Building Science Specialist who provides broad-scope leadership and management of the JRS Engineering Alberta office, driving total performance in alignment with JRS’ strategic, operational, and budgetary planning. Marty’s professional career began in the mid 1990’s as a journeyman carpenter, and small business contracting company owner, where he worked on residential and commercial projects for both restoration and new construction. Building on his knowledge of buildings, Marty completed a degree in Civil Engineering from Lakehead University in 2010. His hands-on experience, in combination with his educational background, has provided Marty with a uniquely comprehensive understanding of the building industry. Marty currently serves on the Board of ABEC South, and is an active member of APEGA.
